Friday 26 July 2013

week commencing 29th July 2013

Dear Parents

Nursery news

You may have seen the Handy men Dennis and Jamie have been with us this week. All of the blinds have now been fitted, our front window has been stripped and repainted, the front wall has had a good clean and the entrance hall is due to have a bit of a refresh!

Looking ahead to next year our numbers are getting very busy, we now have little or no spaces in Bluebells  and limited spaces in the other rooms. If you were looking to change sessions please let me know as soon as possible so that we are able to arrange these for you or get you on to our waiting list.

Please can all parents make sure that the children do not bring in toys from home (except comforters.) We had an incident this week where a child had to go to hospital because they put a bead up their nose. The bead was from another child’s bracelet that had been brought in and broken.

Please can all Sunflower parents check and see if they have Scorch the Dragon and his diary at home. As you can imagine he is very popular and the children are missing him!

Wow vouchers

I have attached Wow vouchers for you to complete at home over the summer. Any achievements your child completes at home over the summer we would like to hear about them! Don’t forget to get Grandparents and extended family involved too.

Holidays

Please can you let us know if you are away; as part of our policies we will call you if your child is expected in and does not arrive and we do not want to be bothering you whilst you are away!

Policies of the week

We will be displaying a different policy every week in the hallway and on our blog:  http://castlenursery-southhill.blogspot.co.uk  (you may have to cut and paste this link).

If you would like to see this or any of our policies please ask Caroline.

Our Policy this week is: Child protection liaison officer (part of our safeguarding children policies)

This week’s activities

Each key person will be responsible for designing an activity based on their key children’s needs; however, all children who are in on that day will have the opportunity to access the activity too.

If the key person is on holiday or off, another staff member will be able to lead the activity in their place so that the children do not miss out.

Child protection liasion officer

What is a CPLO?

Every Nursery must have a staff member who takes on the role of Child Protection Liaison officer, CPLO.

In this nursery that person is Caroline Laidlaw

Each setting also has a deputy Child Protection Liaison officer, DCPLO in case the CPLO is accused of abuse or is absent.

The Deputy Child Protection Liaison officer in this nursery is
Charlotte Hampshire

The role of the CPLO/DCPLO is:

·         to attend the more detailed Multi agency training to enable them to identify, understand and respond appropriately to signs of possible abuse and neglect.

·         To share information with the staff team

·         To access information and liaise with outside agencies to ensure all information is accurate and up to date.

·         Collate information where there are concerns about a child.

·         Contact Surrey County Council Contact Centre who provide relevant and up to date advice and make decisions about referrals.

·         To provide support, advice and guidance to other staff.

·         To have regard to the Government’s statutory guidance “Working Together to Safeguard Children”

Nursery records such as accident and incident records should be checked once a month to ensure that any patterns, health and safety issues or child protection issues are picked up.

Child protection policy

Child Protection Policy

Aim of policy

To protect the welfare of every child in our care.

We aim to comply with the local child protection procedures approved by the Surrey Safeguarding Children board and make sure that all adults working with, and looking after children are able to put these procedures into practice.

Points to consider

This policy covers the following points:

·         Child Protection/ Safeguarding

·         Current safeguarding training

·         Suitable people

·         Whistle Blowing

·         Social Networking

·         Common Assessment Framework (CAF)

Use of mobile phone is covered in the separate Mobile phone and using images policy.

The following policies should be used alongside the Child protection policy to form a full safeguarding procedure,

·         The Mobile phone and using images policy

·         Anti bullying policy

·         Lost/missing child policy

·         Late/non collection of child

·         Arrival and departure procedure

·         Non attendance policy

·         Intoxicated persons policy

·         Multi agency working and information sharing policy

·         Confidentiality policy

If we have a concern about a child we will share these concerns with parents/carers. However, if sharing these concerns puts the child at risk of significant or further harm we will seek advice from the duty manager at Surrey County Councils Contact Centre first.
