Dear
Parents and Carers,
Forest
School
During
this week’s forest school we had lots of fun working together to build a den!
We supported each other to carry the sticks as they were very big! We looked
for sticks with lots of leaves on to make a shelter at the top of our den. We
were all very proud of what we had created and sat inside the den to have our
snack and hot chocolate. After we had our snack we found lots of different
things to decorate our den, we found different types of leaves, pine cones and
sticks, we all had lots of fun!
Zoo
Lab
All
the children enjoyed Zoo Lab, they were able to learn and investigate lots of
different animals. Zoo lab gained all the children’s attention and the majority
of them were excited and curious about what saw!

This week’s activities
Each key person will be responsible for designing
an activity based on their key children’s needs; however, all children who are
in on that day will have the opportunity to access the activity too.
If the key person is on holiday or off, another
staff member will be able to lead the activity in their place so that the
children do not miss out.

Temperature
reduction medicine administration policy
Aim of policy
To
ensure that the administration of non-prescription temperature reducing
medication (such as Calpol) is administered correctly and safely to any
children who require it.
Points to consider
Paracetamol
Suspension will only be administered in an emergency and with permission
obtained from a parent or authorised guardian. This policy refers to EYFS 2014:
3.44-3.46
Castle
Daycare and Preschool aim to achieve this by:
Temperature
reducing medication will be kept on site as an emergency provision only and
must be kept in a labelled container in the medication cupboard.
Temperature
reducing medication is for the use of the reduction of body temperature in
nursery children who have a body temperature exceeding 37.5°C unless the
child’s core body temperature is naturally lower, this should be requested in
writing by the parent.
If
temperature reducing medication is required due to a raised temperature you
should:
- Contact
the parent to request further permission and check that medication has not
already been given. This is to ensure a child does not overdose.
- Complete
a medication form, writing in the parent’s signature box as the top of the
form that permission was given verbally and also previously given in the
registration form.
- Check
the dosage given on the side of the medication to determine the dose
required.
- Only
senior staff are allowed to give medicine.
- Senior
staff to give medication and record on medication form.
- The
medication form must be witnessed by another staff member.
- If
the temperature does not reduce within a reasonable amount of time (this
will also depend on how high the child’s temperature is) then the parent
will need to collect the child.
To
help lower the child’s raised temperature:
Take
off the child’s outer clothes, leaving them in simply their vest and pants/
nappy. (Cover with a cotton sheet if they shiver). Please keep privacy in mind.
Keep
the room at a normal temperature (18- 20°C) or cooler by opening windows and
use a fan to circulate the air, but do not aim it directly at the child.
Give
plenty of fluids to drink.
Sponge
the child’s body and head- not hands and feet- with lukewarm water with a face
flannel.
When
judging the child’s fitness to stay at nursery take into account the well child
policy.
Kind
Regards
Jess
