Sadly
Almu will be leaving us here at South Hill, but she won’t be going far as she
is going over to our Markenfield Road Nursery to use her QTS qualification in
the Pre-School over there. I am sure you will join us in wishing her all the
best.
We
have already been able to fill Almu’s position in the 2-3’s room and Carla will
be joining us at the beginning of September. She has a QTS qualification and
will be working alongside Donna, Chloe and Megan in the 2-3’s room. We will
introduce her to you all during the month of September. Almu will begin a
gradual transfer over to Markenfield during August.
Forest
School
This
morning we enjoyed the last session of Forest School until September. As we
always do, we reviewed the golden rules for Forest School before going into the
woods. Once we were ready and the van was parked we raced to the Ranger's shed
to get some dry wood and fire stuff. We were so excited about the idea of
making a fire as every time we do it we have a special treat for snack. While
Lee was in charge of the fire, Hector took us for a walk and he asked us to get
long and short sticks because we would need them later on.
The
weather was great and we made the most of it picking sticks from so many
different places. Once we gathered a few sticks, we went back to the fire pile
and Hector gave us a few pairs of gloves and two peelers so we could peel our
sticks. We were told these tiny branches would become a marshmallow stick we
would need to use to cook snack. Lee put some chocolate inside the marshmallow
and it melted when we put it in the fire. We were given a biscuit so we could
have a chocolate marshmallow sandwich.
After
a big drink of water Lee and Hector took the shorter sticks we found and they
started to peel them but we didn't know why. Then Lee provided us with some colours
and the peeled sticks so we could make our own stick man!
On
the way back we played hide and seek in two groups, the hiders had to leave
clues (arrows) on the ground so the seekers could find them. It took them a
long time to find us! It was such a good day in Forest School!!

If the key person is on holiday or off, another

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) policy
Aim
of policy
To
give guidance in caring for sleeping babies.
Points
to consider
The
safety and care of all children attending Castle Daycare and Preschool is
paramount.
The
care of very young babies is especially important and we follow the Department
of Health Guidelines when placing babies down to rest or sleep.
Procedures
to follow-
- When putting babies down to sleep/rest always place the baby on their back, unless requested otherwise by parents. Parents must provide a written request of alternate arrangements.
- The baby will be placed with its feet close to the bottom of the cot.
- Room temperature will be kept between 16-21 degrees Celsius.
- Quilts, pillows and cot bumpers will not be used. Only blankets, sheets or baby sleeping bags will be used.
- Blankets or sheets must be placed loosely over the baby’s body.
- Children will be checked every 10 minutes and will include a temperature and breathing check with the minimum of disturbance to the child.
