Dear Parents and Carers,

This week’s events:

In2 sports -This week at In2 Sports we had a new coach called coach Dave. We all had great fun with coach Dave where he got to know us and encouraged us to move around the garden using our bodies and resources around us.

Forest School -This week at Forest School we completed making our own den using lots of materials we found in the forest! We had great fun finalising it look forward to using over the next few weeks. We also had a yummy hot chocolate snack together.

Theatre bugs – This week we joined in with an adventure song about a robin who hid a squirrel’s nut and the squirrel then had to find it again.  We listened to a story about a dog’s party and decided which animals could attend the party and which animals couldn’t as they were hibernating.  We also created sounds with the musical instruments, played with bubbles and did parachute games.

If the key person is on holiday or off, another staff member will be able to lead the activity in their place so that the children do not miss out.

Our Policy of the Week

Lost/missing child policy

Aim of policy

To give clear guidelines on what to do should a child go missing or become lost.

Points to consider

The Childcare and Learning Group recognise the responsibility it has when caring for children throughout the day.  This includes children within the setting and children who are taken out for visits into the community.

We recognise there are a number of situations where a child could become lost and these are:

  • Where a child wanders off on an outing
  • Where a child escapes from the outside area
  • Where a child is taken from the setting by an unapproved adult
  • Where a child is lost within the setting

The Childcare and Learning Group aim to do this by:

  • Alerting the member of staff in charge immediately, if the child is on an outing you must also contact the setting. They will make enquiries of the relevant members of staff as to when the child was last seen and where.
  • Remember the safety of the other children, with regard to supervision and security.
  • Ensure the remaining children are sufficiently supervised and secure, one or preferably two members of staff should then search the building/ outside area straight away.
  • If the child cannot be found within five minutes then the police and parents must be informed.  The operational team must also be informed at this time.
  • Continue to search, opening up the area, keep in touch by mobile phone.
  • When the situation has been resolved members of staff should review the reasons for it happening, complete a risk assessment and ensure measures are taken to ensure it does not happen again.
  • A full and detailed report must be made to the Setting Manager and a copy sent to the Operations Manager and Ofsted.

Kind Regards,

Jess, Charlotte and the South Hill Team
