This week’s activities

Each key person will be responsible for designing an activity based on their key children’s needs; however, all children who are in on that day will have the opportunity to access the activity too.

If the key person is on holiday or off, another staff member will be able to lead the activity in their place so that the children do not miss out.

Our Policy of the Week

Anti-bullying policy

Aim of policy

To give guidance to Practitioners and parents as how we, at the Childcare and Learning Group deal with incidents of bullying between children.

Points to consider

Bullying is not acceptable at the Childcare and Learning Group. Practitioners will respond appropriately and promptly to any form of bullying through its behaviour management policies and according to the child’s needs and stage of development. Parents/ carers will be consulted and setting practitioners will work with parents/carers to manage this behaviour, if necessary the setting will endeavour to seek further guidance from an outside agency.

Bullying is a deliberate action or words that hurt, frighten, threaten or intimidate another person.

Bullying can include:

  • Physically hurting someone
  • Threatening, name calling, teasing
  • Damage to someone else’s property
  • Ignoring or excluding someone.

Childcare and Learning Group aim to achieve this by:

  • The setting will put measures in place to support a child who is being bullied and to manage the bullying.
  • Time will be made for parent/carers of both parties to talk with relevant setting practitioners to explore what is happening for their child and how the setting and parent/carer can support the child together.
  • Bullying will be monitored through written observation for the parents/carers, to reassure them that progress is being made.
  • Looking at how the setting is set out and setting practitioners are positioned so that the child does not find themselves in a vulnerable situation.
  • Discussing appropriate behaviour through group time.
  • Using praise, positive reinforcement and encouraging acceptable social behaviour.
  • The setting will follow its behaviour management procedure to manage the child’s unacceptable behaviour.
  • Unacceptable behaviour is monitored through written observation and reviewed with the parents/carer on a regular basis.

Kind Regards,

Jess, Charlotte and the South Hill Team
